and Treatment of Tendinopathy

Marsha holds a BS in PT from UTHSC-Dallas 1979; Master in Education from HSU, 2002; Orthopedic Clinical Specialist 2003; Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist 2003. She is completing her DSc in Physical Therapy with an emphasis in Orthopedics at Texas Tech University, with anticipated graduation May 2008. Her dissertation topic involves chronic tendinopathy and management. Practicing PT in Abilene area over the last 28 years; has worked in a variety of settings from outpatient rehabilitation, state school, home health, county hospital, hospital acute care and outpatient orthopedic rehab. Presently is an assistant professor at HSU DPT program and continues to work in outpatient orthopedic rehab 10 hrs /wk.

Welcome to the Evidence-Supported Practice for Prevention, Healing and Treatment of Tendinopathy course. You will be guided through each section of this course and will be taking a post-assessment exam at the end. You must pass with 80% or better to receive your CEU credit.

The course has been approved by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for XX CEUs.

This course is designed for physical therapists and physical therapy assistants to earn 0.3 continuing education credits. The course is available online and the anticipated time to take the course is 3-4 hours.

Objectives:

Following the course, the student will:

  1. Identify types of tendon injuries and healing rates in multiple joints of the human body

  2. Describe mechanisms of injuries, including pathomechanics of injuries

  3. Recognize and identify differences in physiology of tendonitis and tendinopathy, including effects of collagen degeneration versus inflammation; effects of   collagen stimulation; effects of delayed onset muscle soreness

  4. Recognize and identify diagnostic testing available for tendon injuries

  5. Demonstrate knowledge of adverse outcomes of conventional treatments

  6. Describe various surgical options available for tendon injuries

  7. Evaluate evidence based treatment techniques and modalities, including specific exercises for prevention and rehabilitation of tendon injuries

  8. Evaluate/ propose treatment options with patient case scenarios
